Thomas the Cat gets a new room

My sweet friend TW has wanted to update her guest bedroom that also doubles at Thomas' own little haven. This is Thomas....yes...he owns the place...and he only comes out to greet you when he is good and ready...got it!

So, when she was trying to decide what to do she wanted something that could withstand his lounging and rolling around on any surface that he so desired....
decision...
my all time favorite to add in
burlap...
then TW added in some linen, leather, and leopard
also my favorites

TW loved it, I loved it and I am sure Thomas is settling in to the new look just fine...
oh, for the coverlet, she found a mattelasse that is cream on one side and tan color close to the color of the burlap on the other.
We both decided the bed needs one more rectangular pillow right in front of the leather euro shams...
always fun to see something come together after thinking and talking about it for...
um, years...

The Best Carrots....EVER!!!

When I saw this recipe for carrots

I knew.....
that. I. would. love. them.

I have a horrible, worst thing ever sweet tooth

I think my mother's fabulous desserts growing up has ruined me
or
I had the best mother ever!!!

yeah...I think it's the latter....

so, I was looking for something to go with our chicken and green beans

and...

I had some carrots that I cut real thin

or if you are chef like

I julienne'd....

is that a word?

Anyway, if you are looking for a wonderful, fabulously sweet vege to go with your meal

you should try the

You will not be disappointed!!!

Club Chairs Slipcovered

I rearrange my living room for my Christmas tree. So when Christmas is packed away, I usually change something around. This year I wanted something different to go in the place of where the Christmas tree is set up so ....
I started looking around...
I have had these club chairs since the early 1990's..
at the time, we had moved into a major fixer upper
so I had to be thrifty when it came to furnishing it.
I found them at a resale store...

I think they were $40 each which at the time was a lot of money...
considering everything else that needed to done in that house....
but they were in great shape, sturdy, very heavy and not a blemish in the upholstery...
but they were a bit..... aged....
wouldn't you say?

I slipcovered them in a fabulous crazy floral...which worked great with my home at the time.....

you can see them here in the background....

now that I am going a little more farmhouse, vintage, cottagey all around different look...
I removed the slipcovers and moved the chairs to the garage....
with all my other projects...
so I had the boys haul them back in to see if they would fit..
well, wouldn't you know!!!
Of course, since this was not planned...
as most of my wild hair projects....
I did not have fabric set aside....
so I started digging around....
they are definitely a marriage of some coordinating fabrics that I had to make work to get them finished.

I used a tone on tone embroidered fabric leftover from my upholstery class, some drop cloth, some burlap and some hemp fabric that was recommended by Miss Mustard Seed here.
I think my color of hemp was more creamy, but ordered from the same supplier.
I will say....it is quite heavy and a little hard to work with but seems to be super durable.
so....here are more pics then you probably want of the slipcovers...
I am loving them...

One side of the cushion I used drop cloth and it just seemed a little...plain...
so I added some jute webbing off to one side...just enough...
on the other side I used the same embroidered fabric that is on the back...

The back, I closed with some big ole fat ties....You can't see them where the chairs are....
but who knows if they will stay here...
;))))

It would not be right if I didn't thank my family for putting up with my...
"hey I think I will do this right now projects"

because they have to put up with this....

Giving Credit

I tried my hand at some chalkboard art....I have written on framed chalkboards...
but mostly just to show that it was a chalkboard....
I wanted to do something different with my mantel after taking my Christmas decorations down.
This is what I had for Christmas

Obviously, I just scribbled that on there.

I went to my Pinterest board and started looking for something fun to write this time and I saw this

So, I pulled my computer over by me on the floor and started writing....

let me just say...
in 2014 I will hit a milestone in my little life...
I will turn 50 years old...
I know, you say, whaaaat?
But it is true....
I ONLY tell you that so that when I say I was on the floor...
well, let's just say, it took a while to work the kinks out when I stood up...
and I DO NOT LIKE THAT!!!!

anywho

back to the fun stuff

I love it...and think it will stay for a while....

ok, gotta finish the REST of the house...
it looks like a tornado hit it
but, at least,
the mantel looks good
:)

Family talks more around a fire

We decided last night, after Troy's family left, how much more our families enjoyed each other after getting everyone away from the tv and out by the firepit. So enjoyed our time together.
